Unexpected practice run

Tonight Steve and I got a little practice run of how it will be on Connor's birthday. This evening I headed to bed early to get ready for a 12hr shift at work tomorrow. I laid down around 8 pm and Connor didn't move at all. Typically I lay down at night and he starts doing flips, kicks, etc. I didn't think much of it until after I drank a whole glass of ice cold water (this too usually stimulates our little guy a lot). Then I thought about it and couldn't remember the last time I felt him move. So I gave him some time, had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and another glass of water. Still nothing. I walked around the house, told Steve I was worried, looked in my baby books to see what "normal" was, and waited for Connor to wake up. At about 9:30 I got really worried, I was having an "instinct" moment where I just felt like something was wrong. So I went with my gut and at about 9:45 called my Doctor (well, the on-call Dr.). She was sweet (and could tell I was kinda panicking)and said calmly "Well let's just check it out". So I headed into the hospital, checked into the ED (where they insist pregnant women-even when not in labor-be pushed in a wheelchair), and was admitted to the L/D department. I had a very sweet, mild, calm nurse who hooked me up to the monitor and in no time there was Connor's strong heart beat. Of course about 10 minutes into the non-stress test he was rolling around in my belly. Thanks for making me look bad, little guy. My blood pressure went from 140/96 to 120/80 as soon as I felt the baby move and heard his heart beating away. The monitor also picked up a bunch of Braxton-Hicks contractions (which I didn't really even feel). We left around 11 and I am emotionally drained but feel much better that I went in.
I called in sick to work tomorrow because I won't get enough sleep to get through a 12 hour day tomorrow. Sorry work, my health and my baby are priority right now.

The good news was we got an "inside look" (before the maternity ward tour we are taking next week) of the L/D dept and it was really nice. The hospital looked abandoned except the maternity ward where 5 nurses greeted me with smiling faces. I am a little less nervous about the process of delivery/being in the hospital.

On another note, Steve will be staying home tomorrow too because he has what we think is a corneal abrasion. He was an awesome husband this weekend while I was at work, remodeling our guest bathroom. He got a piece of tile or something in his eye and thought it was fine but now has been hurting since Sunday morning. Now his eye is really red and he's going to the eye doctor tomorrow. Hopefully we can heal him before the BIG DAY!
