Announcing, Baby Cox!

Baby Cox was a surprise to me and Steve, but some of our friends were kinda expecting it. So much so that a few years back, when we kept saying we were going to get pregnant when we were 30, we made a bet with Steve's friend, Levent. The bet was for $100 and it was that we would be able to hold out on babies until I was 30 (which is next February). Over the years Levent often tried to get us to "up our ante". The bet was discussed to increase the dollar value to $1000 (what we'd get if we waited until age 30) or if Levent won he'd get to name our baby. Well, there is not enough beer in the world to get me to say ok to that bet, and boy am I glad I held out.

So to make the announcement to the group, in particular to Levent, we wrote out a big check for $100 (and gave him the cash for real). We wrapped it up and gave it to him on a night where about 25 of our friends were gathered. Many didn't "get it" but when they read the memo line on the check it all made some sense.

First Ultrasound

So, the next day (Feb 15) I went to work, trying to keep a tight lip. I had some more cramping and spotting and got a little paranoid so I called my MD office at lunch. The doctor was busy but was going to call me back. I couldn't answer when she did call back but then when I listened to the message the nurse said "the Dr. wants you to come in today to be seen". I confused and worried. Is something wrong already?
I tearfully (it's true pregnancy makes tears come out easier) told my boss that I had to leave mid-shift to go to a Dr. appt. She asked if everything was ok but I couldn't give her any details so I just said the Dr. wants to discuss some labwork (which was actually true).
I got to the MD office and they checked my in a put in a room with an Ultrasound machine. I undressed and she came in and was like "your lab work came back and we think you are further along then we thought". Based on my HCG levels, she said we'd probably be able to see a heart beat! What?
Sure enough, the ultrasound found a little bean with a heart beat fluttering away. It was so crazy!
I called Steve immediately and he was so excited. The doctor measured the bean and said we were 6 weeks along.

Valentine's Day gift

So the Monday after we got the positive tests, I called my MD office first thing to be seen. When the receptionist asked why I needed to come in I said "I think I'm pregnant". She was like "have you taken a pregnancy test?". I said "Yes, I took 5". She was like "we usually consider 1 test a positive result". I had been having some cramping over the weekend too and was a bit concerned. They got me in but I had to call in sick to work, the white lies began.
Ironically I had just been to the doctor for my annual exam and literally said to her "I maybe seeing you before next February for annual because we are going to try to have a baby at the end of the year." Little did I know, as I said that I was already a few weeks pregnant. You know what they say, life is what happens when you are busy making plans. Ha.
The doctor took a urine test, and yep I was pregnant. They took blood work, said congrats and told me to come back in 2 days for more blood work. We were unsure of the date of conception and so she wasn't sure how far along I was. (Trying to avoid TMI)

It's Official

So my blogging career has not been a successful one, but I'm gonna try to get this rolling again. I started a cooking blog a few months ago and it was great but then I was getting really tired, kinda nauseous at night too so I wasn't feeling up to cooking. I didn't realize than that I was pregnant! And that was why I had zero energy and minimal appetite.

We found out the weekend before Valentine's Day that we were pregnant. It was a HUGE surprise to Steve and I. I had been feeling "a bit off" and took a pregnancy test at the suggestion of a nurse friend of mine. I bought the test and brought it home after work on Saturday. I took it nonchalantly thinking "there's no way it will be positive". Sure enough, the second pink line came in. It was very faint though so I called Steve in to check it. He was calmer than I was. I took the second test in the box, and again it was 2 lines but the "positive" line was faint. I still didn't buy it. So Sunday I went to Safeway and bought 2 more brands of pregnancy test. I took 3 or 4 more tests, all positive. Again, I was a bit flustered but Steve was perfectly calm.

That evening we had our friends Nikki and Tom and my sister and Tim over for dinner. I had a really hard time not telling them the news.
