Steve and I took a Baby Care class at the hospital this week and we learned all sorts of fun stuff. How to change a diaper, swaddle, make the baby stop crying, take a rectal temperature, you know all the necessities. Steve was very hands on with the doll. I got a kick out of this: the instructor says "Ok, now we are going to learn to swaddle the baby". Right then, Steve automatically puts a cloth diaper over his shoulder and puts the baby up to his shoulder (as if to burp) and hugs his arms around the baby. I say "What are you doing?" Steve says, in his calm voice "I'm swaddling the baby". I love it! Steve soon found out that the swaddle is much more than just giving the baby a hug! He's learning so much!
We visited baby Cameron and Josh (my nephews) on last night and Steve again stunned me with his parenting skills. He was teaching Josh to hit the golf ball off the tee, a new fete for 2 year old Josh. He also encouraged him to eat his dinner when all he wanted to do was play. He even did a little "bad cop" parenting and told Josh to stop climbing on the table, because it "wasn't safe". Josh loves his uncle Steve, he's gonna be a great daddy. I can't wait to see him interact with Connor.
