My friends used to call me Martha because I liked to sew, make crafty projects, bake, plan parties, etc but lately work and school (and admittedly the 1st trimester exhaustion) preventing my from doing much of that. Now with the "nesting" instinct I have been more inclined to do some crafts. The other reason is I'm not crazy about the decor in the baby stores and I'm really not crazy about the prices. So I decieded to make some of my own decor for the nursery.
The flag is made of scrap fabrics that I have collected over the years (I did buy the sailboat fabric new for the room b/c it's too perfect and I wanted to reface a pillow). I cut out triangles and sandwiched a piece of bunting between 2 triangles of fabric. Sewed up the edges, cut the edges with pinking shears and sewed the triangles to some white ribbon. The "tie backs" are some 25 cent wood stars that I painted with some old paint I had in the garage, hot glued it to some thumb tacks and stuck 'em in the wall.
The mobile was made with a life preserver I bought for $3 on a crafting website. I use some old remnant ribbon I had at home to tie on some 60 cent wooden pre-painted nautical themed trinkets. Hung it with a cup hook I found in the garage and voila... a very inexpensive mobile to distract baby while getting a diaper change (changing pad to come).
Side note: today was a good day. It was 90 degrees and I had the day off. I ran some errands (studied for my wound certification test coming up next week, went to Buy Buy Baby and added things to the registry, stopped at Whole Foods for a tomato (hot days make me crave tomato sandwiches), went to the hospital to visit my friend Tanisha and her adorable baby girl, took Brooklyn for a long walk in the neighborhood and then lifted weights by the pool while Brooklyn took a long swim. Now it's off the bed early before work tomorrow. Steve gets home from Massachusetts at around midnight tonight.
It's coming along. I love the bunting!
